A GREAT 280KM ROUTE WITH SOME 4+ HRS OF DRIVING
Enjoy one of the Club’s favourite driving routes the Putty Road without the usual weekend traffic. After about an hour’s drive there is a quick pitstop at the Grey Gum Café before continuing towards Broke and onto Wollombi.
The plan is to arrive at Wollombi Tavern around Noon where you order and pay for your own lunch and drinks and sit around for a couple of hours having a relaxing chat.
After lunch we head back towards Sydney along Great North Rd until Peats Ridge where we will join Peats Ridge Rd and drive onto the Old Pacific Hwy for an afternoon tea stop at Pie in the Sky before heading back into the throng of Sydney.
A reconnaissance drive on 31 August found 95% of the roads to be in good condition and suitable for enthusiastic driving. Nonetheless, there are numerous roads works on both the Putty and Great North roads but these are relatively short and good road surfaces are provided to get through them. However, Wollombi Road 5kms either side of Wollombi is still quite rough even though the numerous small potholes have been filled following last year’s flood damage. But these rough road sections are readily traversable at slow speeds.
WARNING: THERE ARE NO “FRONT SPOILER EATING” ROAD SECTIONS BUT DO NOT BRING YOUR STIFFENED OR LOWERED SUSPENSION PORSCHE AS YOU WILL NEED TO VISIT YOUR DENTIST AFTERWARDS TO REPLACE YOUR TOOTH FILLINGS.
Cost $10.00 per car
Limit: 40 people, to avoid overcrowding Wollombi Tavern.
