For your information.

For some years now a small group of PCNSW Members have made the road trip to Phillip Island Vic, in March to see the annually world famous Shannosn Classic Historic Car Races as it is one of the largest gathering famous classic and historic race cars from around the World. Also the racing is as spectacular as the display of cars. The link to the 2013 event is at: http://www.vhrr.com/phillip_island.htm

Just in case you’re  interested in going the Shannons Classic Car races at Phillip Island next March I recommend you look for accommodation in and around Cowes now as it appears that a lot of the good accommodation is already booked out.  I have secured accommodation at the Quest Oceanic Apartments in Cowes and recommend it as they offer two bedroom apartments which have offstreet, undercover and secure parking for our precious Porsches. They are also walking distance from the centre of Cowes  which is handy for après-race beering, wining & dining.

Don’t try booking this directly through the Quest Oceanic website as it will show no room available, however, I successfully booked it through the Bass Coast Tourist Information Centre link: bookings@basscoast.vic.gov.au. This website can also provide other accommodation options on Phillip Island.

I propose to co-ordinate a small  group of PCNSW members (no more than 15 cars & 20 people) to do the mecca to Phillip Island as some of us have done in past years along out favourite drive route via Cooma, Kiandra, Corryong, overnighting at Tawonga and then over Mt Hotham, Omeo, Bairnsdale and finally to Phillip Island.  As previously we will leave Sydney on Wed 6 March to arrive in Phillip Island  on Thursday afternoon 7 March so that we can attend practice on Friday and watch the races on Saturday and part Sunday. As previously I propose to overnight on Wednesday night and Sunday night at the Mountain Creek Motel, Tawonga which can be booked through their website at: www.mountaincreekmotel.com.au

The return trip home is up to individuals where some may choose the direct route back to Sydney where other may choose to re-live the great driving back via the way we came or variations thereof.

Please let me know if you are interested in doing this trip. As previously anyone coming as part of the group organizes their own accommodation and meals etc I will  just co-ordinate the group and the drive notes.
